Do you feel like a bad person because you aren’t following the Asian blueprint?
You’re likely here because you’re struggling with some uncomfortable experiences with the “war” over your bi-cultural identity. You’re born in America with Asian immigrant parents but you’re finding parts of the culture being imposed on you, to be constraining, toxic, and judgmental. You're feeling judged because people call you “whitewashed” when you’re an American doing American things. You feel like you can’t do anything right. It all makes you feel like a bad person.
You’re may be feeling any or all of the following:
Hopeless things will never change
Frustrated with parents overreacting to any decision you make for yourself
Overwhelmed with the pressure of achievement
Stuck because there’s no movement in this dynamic
Chronic mental pain
Resentful towards the culture and/or family
Yearning for what your non-Asian friends are doing
Shame for being a “bad person” because you’re doing normal American activities
You want to be free to do what you want to do without having such a big reaction from the culture and losing your relationship with your parents. You want your parents to understand you. You want to choose how “Asian” you are or not at all.
I know these are uncomfortable things to talk about in the community. I want you to let off the steam that’s been building inside you waiting to explode like a pressure bomb. What I know are proven strategies to help you feel better without medication. It's time you have control over your life.
